AND YET HOPE REMAINS
We’re moved and inspired by our Christian belief that every person has intrinsic value, and that it’s our responsibility to advocate for the poor and marginalized without regard to race, creed or nationality and without adverse distinction of any kind. We serve on the basis of need alone. We strive to respect the culture and customs of the people we serve in order to preserve their humanity and dignity.
Food for the Hungry seeks to end ALL forms of human poverty by going to the hard places and walking with the world’s most vulnerable people. For fifty years, we’ve been serving through purposeful relief and development. We believe in the fight against poverty, which is why we serve the vulnerable in over 20 countries globally.
WHO ARE WE
Haiti has been facing dire times for a long-term period and has been struggling non-stop for better days. In recent decades, the country has suffered many setbacks due to political volatility and civil unrest, which continue to the present day. The country has also faced several natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquake). In order to respond to this poverty conditioning, FH Haiti has maintained a sustained presence in Haiti since 2008 initially focused on health and HIV before transitioning to disaster relief and recovery in the wake of the 2010 earthquake. Since then, FH has transitioned into long-term community development programming, with a strategic view of the context of the country, and within the framework of the strategic development process initiated by the Global office.
WHAT WE DO
We provide life-changing resources such as clean water, medical aid, food, equal educational opportunities to girls and boys, vocational training and empowerment in the midst of unimaginable hardships. Our view of poverty is holistic and complex. We honor the people we serve by inviting them to contribute to the process. We are grateful to be invited into the communities we serve and work side-by-side with local leaders, responding to their needs with transformative solutions, which are both sustainable and implemented at the hands of the communities themselves
We Go To The Hard Places
We believe in fighting against extreme poverty in the world’s most vulnerable communities, which is why we choose to go to the hard places. We intentionally seek out communities that are geographically difficult to reach, lack adequate infrastructure for community development, and suffer from harsh climates, war, natural disasters, disease and violence. We courageously seek out the overlooked and advocate for the underserved. We’re called to go farther. We’re called to the hard places.
